SMALL BUDGET. REAL COVERAGE.

YOUR BUDGET IS TIGHT. YOUR INSURANCE SHOULDN'T BE.

Low-budget filmmakers get bounced from generalist brokers every day — too small, too risky, too inexperienced. We work the specialty markets that actually want indie business and place real production policies, not stripped-down event coverage in disguise.

Most "low budget film insurance" out there isn't film insurance at all. It's a general liability policy with the words "production" stapled on. That doesn't satisfy your location agreement, your equipment rental house, or your distributor.

We place legitimate production package policies — general liability, third-party property damage, equipment, props, sets, wardrobe, and extra expense — sized and priced for productions that can't afford to overpay or under-buy. Need a DICE producer policy for ongoing project work, or a one-off short-term policy for a single shoot? Both are on the table.

Whether you're shooting on weekends with a five-person crew or running a 14-day SAG Ultra Low Budget feature, the policy is built for what you're actually doing — including E&O coverage if you're heading toward distribution.

LOW BUDGET FILM INSURANCE FAQ

QUESTIONS WE GET WEEKLY

HOW MUCH DOES LOW BUDGET FILM INSURANCE COST?
For most micro and low-budget features, production package premiums start in the low four figures and scale up based on budget, shoot length, equipment values, and risk factors like stunts or pyrotechnics. Carriers have minimum premiums even for the smallest productions, so a $50,000 shoot and a $150,000 shoot may pay similar base rates. See our full film production insurance cost breakdown for tier-by-tier pricing.
CAN YOU GET FILM INSURANCE FOR A MICRO-BUDGET PRODUCTION?
Yes. Specialty production carriers write policies for shoots well under $100,000 in total budget. The key is working with a broker who places these regularly — generalist agencies often decline or quote sky-high because they don't have the right markets.
DO I NEED INSURANCE FOR A SELF-FUNDED INDIE FILM?
Almost always. Permits, locations, equipment rental houses, distributors, and SAG-AFTRA agreements all require proof of insurance. Even if no one is technically requiring it, a single on-set injury or location damage claim can wipe out your entire budget without coverage. Our film insurance requirements page walks through every common compliance trigger.
WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A DICE POLICY AND A FEATURE FILM POLICY?
A DICE policy is annual and covers Documentary, Industrial, Commercial, and Educational projects across the year. A feature film policy is project-specific and tailored to the shooting schedule, locations, and risks of one production. Most low-budget features need a project-specific policy.
HOW FAST CAN I GET A CERTIFICATE OF INSURANCE?
Often the same day, sometimes within hours, depending on the underwriting required. If the production is bound and the additional insured language is straightforward, certificates can be issued quickly. See our same-day certificate page for the full rapid-turnaround process.
DOES LOW BUDGET FILM INSURANCE COVER STUNTS OR WEAPONS?
It can, but those risks are underwritten separately and require additional information — stunt coordinator credentials, weapons handlers, fight choreographers, and detailed scene breakdowns. We place this every week and know what carriers need to bind it. See stunt and pyrotechnics film insurance for the full picture.
