WINERY, BREWERY AND DISTILLERY INSURANCE FOR ALCOHOL PRODUCERS
Making alcohol means insuring a manufacturer, a warehouse, a tasting room, and an alcohol-serving business all at once. Kelly Insurance Group builds specialty programs for wineries, breweries, and distilleries that cover production, product, and the people who visit.
YOU'RE NOT ONE BUSINESS — YOU'RE FOUR.
A winery, brewery, or distillery is a manufacturer, a warehouse full of valuable in-process and aging product, a tasting room that serves the public, and often a tour and event operation. Each side carries its own exposure, and a generic policy rarely fits all of them. Production equipment, product liability, spoilage, and liquor service all have to be addressed together.
We build producer programs that reflect everything under your roof — from the still or the tanks to the tasting bar — and place them with markets that understand the industry.

QUESTIONS THAT OFTEN COME UP.
WHAT DOES WINERY, BREWERY, AND DISTILLERY INSURANCE COVER?
Alcohol producer insurance combines property and equipment coverage, product liability, liquor liability for tasting rooms, general liability for tours and visitors, and often equipment breakdown and spoilage. The mix depends on whether the producer makes, stores, serves, and distributes on site.
DO ALCOHOL PRODUCERS NEED LIQUOR LIABILITY?
Producers that pour at a tasting room, host events, or serve samples generally need liquor liability, because serving alcohol creates the same over-service and dram shop exposure a bar faces, in addition to product liability for what they make.
IS EQUIPMENT BREAKDOWN COVERED?
Equipment breakdown can be added to cover mechanical or electrical failure of tanks, stills, refrigeration, and brewing or production systems, which standard property forms may not cover on their own. For producers, failure can also spoil product.
WHAT ABOUT PRODUCT SPOILAGE OR CONTAMINATION?
Spoilage and contamination coverage can respond when a batch is ruined by a covered cause such as a breakdown or contamination event. Given the value of aging and in-process product, this is an important consideration for producers.
DO TASTING ROOMS AND TOURS CHANGE MY COVERAGE?
Yes. Opening to the public for tastings, tours, and events adds liquor and general liability exposure on top of production. How the public interacts with the operation is a key part of structuring the program.
